Description:

This early 1943 production Model 1911A1 pistol was manufactured by the Ithaca Gun Company using a Colt Model 1911A1 frame. In the later part of 1942 and the beginning of 1943, the Ithaca Gun Company purchased approximately 2200 frames from Colt to increase their production. These pistols are shown in the Colt serial number range with Ithaca inspector/proof markings. The pistol has a mid-war pattern slide marked on the left side with the two line, two block Colt patent/address markings along with the Rampant Colt in the middle of the markings and the "P" proof on top in front of the rear sight. The number 1133594 is marked around the firing pin hole. Standard U.S. property markings on the right side of the frame, with the crossed cannon ordnance proof behind the right grip. The left side of the frame has the "FJA" inspector marking of Col. Frank J. Atwood, with a "P" proof next to the magazine catch. A small "o" is marked on the right front of the trigger guard bow. It has the earlier wide Colt hammer, an early Ithaca arched mainspring housing with the narrower checkering, and a WWII High Standard replacement barrel that is marked with "HS" and "P" proofs on the right and left side of the lug. Fitted with Colt style brown plastic checkered grips with the reinforcing rib inside, with the single mold numbers, and the larger reinforcing ring around the screw holes. Complete with a blued magazine marked "R" on the lip of the front of the base plate and "C-R" on the bottom of the base plate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 80% of the faded original GI parkerized finish remaining, with a few spots of heavier holster wear. The grips are very good with a few minor nicks from service use. A very good example of an early original Colt/Ithaca Model 1911A1 pistol.
