Description:

Experimental semi-automatic carbine manufactured by the Johnson Automatics Co. The Type R Carbine combines features of the Johnson Model 1941 Semi-Automatic Rifle and the Johnson Model 1941 Light Machinegun. The rifle has the 10-round rotary magazine, forearm and bayonet lug utilized on the Model 1941 Rifle. The stock, receiver, pistol grip and front and rear sights resemble those found on the Model 1941 Light Machinegun. The stock has a M-14 folding buttplate. The barrel, receiver and rotary magazine have a black painted finish. The stock, pistol grip and forearm are oil-finished walnut. Sling swivels are mounted on the left side of the stock and forearm. A three-position selector switch on the right side of the receiver has positions for "LOAD, SAFE" and "FIRE". The top of the receiver is roll-stamped with the Johnson patent information in a five-line block. The patent dates are followed by the roll-stamped marking: "CAL. 30-'06. SEMI-AUTO/"JOHNSON AUTOMATICS"/MODEL OF 1940/MADE IN PROVIDENCE, R.I., U.S.A./ X0003/TYPE R CARBINE" in six lines. The serial number "X0003" is also stamped on the left side of the receiver behind the pistol grip. The front of the barrel shroud is stamped: ".30-'06" above the barrel and "41" below it. This is a rare experimental Johnson Automatics semi-automatic carbine that would complement any U.S. military small arm collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The carbine retains 99% of the teflon finish and shows only very minor storage wear. The stock, pistol grip and forearm are in excellent condition and also show only minimal storage wear. The receiver markings are crisp. This is a unique, experimental Johnson Automatics semi-automatic carbine in outstanding condition.
