Description:

This excellent original Colt M1911A1 Pistol was manufactured in 1940. The pistol has the pre-WWII brush blue finish with blued barrel and checkered, brown plastic, grips. The pistol has the WWII pattern short hammer and milled trigger with checkered main-spring housing, safety lock and slide stop. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No717706" in two lines behind the slide stop hole followed by "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY" ahead of it. The left side of the frame is stamped with the Colt "VP/Triangle" commercial proofmark and a small "P" assembly mark on the trigger guard bow and the "CSR" Ordnance final inspection stamp and "P" proofmark in front of the grip. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the 1897-1913 patent dates in an elongated, two-line block followed by the Rampant Colt trademark and two-line Hartford address. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the top of the slide ahead of the rear sight. The pistol serial number is stamped on the rear face of the slide behind the firing pin stop. The pistol is complete with three full blue, pre-war commercial magazines, a WWI contract magazine pouch marked: "P&B CO./JAN. 1918" on the inside of the flap, a WWII, SEARS, russet leather, M1916 holster with tie-down strap and four, 20-round cartons of WWI government contract .45ACP cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol retains 97% plus of the totally original brush blue finish. There is some light holster wear on the muzzle end of the slide and the finish has thinned slightly on the edges of the backstrap and main spring housing. There are some very minor spots of surface rust on the top and forward edges of the slide and the grip strap and some minor take-down scratches on the slide. The barrel chamber has 90% of the original blue finish with some cycling wear. The grips are in excellent condition. The markings are crisp. All of the magazines have 95% or more of the blue finish. The holster, magazine pouch and cartridge cartons are all in very-fine to excellent condition. If you wanted to own one World War II blued U.S. Colt Model 1911A1, here it is!
