Description:

This is a nice example of a U.S. Army contract pistol as produced in 1943, that was subsequently rebuilt for Korea or Vietnam. The left side of the slide is marked "ITHACA GUN CO. INC / ITHACA N.Y." and the top of the slide has a single "P" proof in front of the rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "FJA" for Frank J. Atwood, the U.S. Government Inspector and a single "P" proof next to the magazine catch release button. The right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial number with a small "RIA" (Rock Island Arsenal) rebuild stamp below that. The front end of the frame is marked "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY". There is a crossed-cannon Ordnance proof by the hammer pin hole. It has a serrated slide stop, checkered trigger, thumb safety, wide spur hammer, and arched mainspring housing with lanyard ring on the heel. It is fitted with a wartime set of brown plastic checkered grips that has the reinforcing web inside with a single mold number on each grips.

Rating Definition:

Arsenal refurbished overall with 95% of the parkerized finish remaining overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with thinning on the front grip strap and blue loss on the chamber area of the barrel. The grips are in excellent condition. Mechanically excellent.
