Description:

1) 21" x 29", by Paul Stahr. Marked, "Be Patriotic / sign your country's / pledge to save the food / U.S. FOOD ADMINISTRATION" with makers marks on the bottom edge. Depicts a woman in patriotic garb. 2) 21" x 29", by Wallace Morgan, circa 1918. Charcoal style, with text "FEED a FIGHTER / Eat only what you need-- / Waste nothing-- / That he and his family / may have enough / UNITED STATES FOOD ADMINISTRATION". Stanbridge Lithograph Company markings present. 3) 20" x 30" U.S. Food Administration poster, by Charles Edward Chambers, circa 1917. Text reads, "FOOD WILL WIN THE WAR / You came here seeking Freedom / You must now help to preserve it / WHEAT is needed for the allies / Waste nothing / UNITED STATES FOOD ADMINISTRATION". Color image of immigrants arriving in New York City. "RUSSLING WOOD, Litho. N.Y." at the bottom. 4) 21" x 29" poster by Raleigh, circa 1918. Text reads, "BLOOD or BREAD / Others are giving their blood / You will shorten the war-- / save life if you eat only what / you need, and waste nothing / UNITED STATES FOOD ADMINISTRATION" / NO. 16". Charcoal drawing depicting a solider holding a dead comrade. 5) 21" x 29 1/4", by George Illian. Text reads, "KEEP it COMING" over General Pershing quote over "WASTE NOTHING / UNITED STATES FOOD ADMINISTRATION / NO. 14". The W.F. Powers Company address is present. Depicts a military supply convoy. This is one example of a WWI War Saving Stamps poster. 6) A 30" x 39" poster illustrated by James Montgomery Flagg. Text reads, "BOYS and GIRLS! / You can Help your Uncle Sam / Win the War." See image. 7) A 39" x 30" poster illustrated by an unknown artist. Text reads, "BUY UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT / WAR SAVINGS STAMP". See image. 8) A 20" x 30" WSS poster illustrated by Charles Livingston Bull, circa 1918. Text reads, "KEEP HIM FREE". See image.

Rating Definition:

1) Good plus, with minor rippling/creases and limited paper loss in the lower left corner. 2) Good, with minor rippling, border tears, minor stains and fraying on the left side. 3) Very good, with minor rippling, limited paper loss and a few minor border tears and stains. 4) Very good, with some paper loss, a few mild tears and a 3" long tear at the bottom. 5) Very good, with minor edge wear and stains. 6) Good plus. A 15" x 10" piece missing from the lower left, half of bottom text remains, some minor tears, minor fold creases and some minor rippling/creases from being rolled. There are some minor stains, but the color remains clear and bright. 7) Good. Some minor creases from being rolled, with some minor tears (mostly contained to the border), limited paper loss and some minor wrinkles (mostly contained to the border). The colors remain vivid and bright. 8) Excellent with some minor tears along the lower right hand corner. The edges are mostly sharp. There is a tape mark on the left bottom corner. There are some mild stains that do not distract from the bright and vivid colors. A very nice example of a WWI propaganda poster.
