This is a scarce example of a 1940 production K98 rifle as manufactured by the Gustloff factory. The top of the receiver is marked "337" the seldom encountered wartime code for the Gustloff Werke at Weimar and "1940". The right side of the receiver is marked with the number "1", a Nazi firing proof and three "eagle/740" proof marks. The left side of the barrel and receiver are marked with the Nazi firing proof and the serial number. The left side receiver wall is unmarked. The right side of the barrel directly behind the hand guard is marked with the letter "i" and two proof marks. The floor plate and rear barrel band are marked with the number "1" and an "eagle/1" proof mark, and the attaching iron is marked with an "eagle/221" and "eagle/749" proofs. The rifle has the early war pattern all milled components to include the closed and milled upper barrel band. All visible numbers match. Hooded front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters, The stock and handguard are the correct laminated wartime versions with a small eagle proof over the letter "H" on the right side and faint eagle proofs on the wrist. Complete with a slotted cleaning rod, leather cross hatch sling and bayonet with serrated Bakelite handle and metal scabbard. The bayonet is marked "E.u.F. Horster" and "789/e". The scabbard is marked the same with the addition of "1939".

Rating Definition:

Professionally restored. The rifle retains 99% finish. The forward section of the stock is loose and the wood has been freshened with a coat of oil and remains excellent with a few minor dents and dings. The markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. The bayonet is excellent. The scabbard and sling are good.
