Description:

Located in southern Austria, Ferlach has a long and upstanding tradition of producing some of the finest hunting weapons of all types dating back to the 1500s. Ferlach firearms are known to have the perfect balance of quality, beauty, craftsmanship and functionality. Today there are 13 companies making guns. These companies are family groupings and some of the best known of these families and most often encountered in the U.S. have names such as Hauptmann, Winkler and Michelitsch just to name a few. This particular rifle features a part octagon barrel with a solid rib, blade front and three leaf (one fixed, two folding) rear sights. The left rear barrel flat is marked "BOHLER six point star RASANT .458 WINCH. MAG. 17527" and an eagle, and "NPF" proofmarks followed by "021.71". The left side of the receiver ring has the same latter markings and the left side receiver wall is marked "FRANZ-SODIA-FERLACH-AUSTR.". The receiver is engraved with a floral scroll and feather design and the bolt handle has a floral scroll design. The floor plate is engraved with a floral scroll design and has a gold relief cape buffalo. The trigger guard has gold inlaid script initials. There is a sling stud mounted on the underside of the barrel. Mounted with a one piece checkered walnut pistol grip stock with a contrasting forend, cheekpiece, red rubber recoil pad, sling swivel and silver initial oval.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 99% of the original blue finish with some light handling marks. The receiver and floor plate have a smooth gray patina. Most of the faded gold remains on the cape buffalo and all of the gold inlay in the initials remains. The stock is excellent with a few overall scattered minor dings and dents. The engraving and markings remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
