Manufactured from 1971 to 1982, this particular pistol has the Devel conversion (also know as the "function and reliability package"), which consists of the shorter 3 1/2" barrel (rather than 4"), Devel front sight with recessed ramp, with red insert, 13 round magazine (usual 14 round), rear Patridge type rear sight adjustable for windage and the matte nickel finish. Mechanically the pistols extractor and slide are modified to Devel specifications. A Devel barrel bushing is installed to improve accuracy. The feed ramp and chamber are polished. The magazine well beveled and the recoil, main, firing pin and extractor springs are replaced with wolff springs. The pistol has the standard markings with the addition of "PAT'S PENDING" on the right side of the slide below and behind the ejection port. Fitted with black checkered grips with the "S&W" logo at the top and the "DEVEL" emblems in the middle. Complete with three extra (four total) double stack magazines.

Professionally refinished by Devel. The pistol retains all of the matte nickel finish with only light handling marks. The grips are excellent with a few light scratches and handling marks.

As "A" except fitted with checkered walnut grips with S&W medallions and Devel emblem. The pistols are accompanied with a copy of literature detailing the Devel conversions.
