Blade front and ladder (minus crossbar) rear sights, with the left side of the breech marked "25" twice among crossed scepter and crown/ letter proofs. Lock plate is marked with an eagle over "M in shield", with "1863" ahead of the border engraved hammer. Smooth straight grip stock from a U.S. Springfield 1861 Musket, with a tulip head ramrod, brass forearm tip, 3 "U" marked barrel bands, brass screw escutcheons, 2-piece trigger guard with sling swivel and a smooth buttplate with "U.S." stamped on the heel. Such combinations are sometimes seen on Confederate-issued arms.

Rating Definition:

Good assembled, with a mixed brown patina on the barrel and lock, showing dings along the sides of the barrel, scattered spotting and handling marks, and pitting concentrated around the muzzle and nipple. Stock is a fair replacement, with a brass panel added next to the lock, mended chips and areas of revarnish, along with light cracks and handling marks. Mechanically fine.
