The lock is marked "MANUFACTD BY / RICHARDSON & OVERMAN / PHILADA" over the serial number directly behind the hammer and "GALLAGER'S PATENT / JULY 17TH 1860" to the rear. The front sight a fixed pinched blade and the rear a folding leaf style. There is a saddle ring bar and ring mounted on the left stock wrist. The Gallager saw extensive service during the Civil War including cavalry regiments from Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Rating Definition:

Period replated with much of the nickel plating remaining speckled with dark patina and areas of pitting (mostly on the barrel). The hammer and lever have a dark patina with some minor spotting and pitting. The patchbox and rear sight show minor pitting. The stock is good with the exception of a 2 1/2" splinter missing and a minor crack on top of the wrist at the hammer, otherwise there is a crack at the front sling bar base, a couple minor gouges on the left wrist and overall minor dents and scratches. The markings are readable. Mechanically excellent.
