Manufactured from 1879 to 1886. Blade and sporting type rear sights on a barrel marked "WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY, CT. U.S.A.", with "40-60" at the breech. Upper tang has the patent dates, lower tang has the serial number, and the number "15" is marked on the underside of the frame. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent trapdoor buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and magazine have a smooth brown patina. The receiver has a smooth gray patina with traces of faded original blue finish remaining (strongest on the bolt and lower tang). Overall there is some scattered minor pitting and spotting. The wood is also very good with some minor dings and scratches, along with a minor gouge on the forearm (left side) and a hole near the lower tang. Mechanically excellent. A lot of Old West character here!
