Description:

This is an excellent example of a very early 1900 Swiss DWM commercial contract luger pistol. These pistols were produced in the first real luger contract from the Swiss government to DWM for Lugers. Eventually the Swiss Government became one of the most prolific and long term users of luger pistols. These 1900 commercial models were all produced intermixed with the military models with only 3000 commercial pistols produced in total. These pistols all have the early features such as the dished toggles with the toggle lock, the flat/recessed breech bolt, no stock lug, grip safety, flat main springs and fast taper barrel that is 4 3/4 inch long. This specific pistol has the correct Swiss cross in a sunburst on top of the chamber area with the top of the toggle marked "DWM" with the original unaltered "V" rear sight. The left side of the barrel extension has the standard Commercial Crown over "B and U" proofs. The underside of the barrel has the full serial number of the pistol along with the small Crown over "B, U and G" proofs. These pistol all have the standard commercial serial numbering sequence which is the full serial number on the underside of the barrel and the front of the frame with the last two digits (83) on the take down lever, underside of the side plate, the back of each grip, the bottom of the recoil lug and the front and rear toggle. The grips are checkered walnut with the correct Swiss style nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base. It has the rust blue finish with straw colored take down lever, trigger, magazine release, extractor, ejector and thumb safety lever. It is complete with an original early 1900 style Swiss leather holster. The back is marked "R. KUPPER/BERN" in a small oval over the number 16.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blued finish remaining showing with just some minor edge and high spot wear on the side plate hump, the muzzle area, the front frame rails and the edges of the trigger guard bow. 80% of the original straw colors remain. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering on both sides with just a couple of minor pressure dents on the right side. It has all matching numbers with a correct unnumbered metal disc wood base, nickel plated magazine. The holster is very good.
