This is a beautiful example of a Merkel model 147EL double barreled shotgun that has been factory engraved by the Merkel Master engraver Bernd Ludwig, that is so marked on the left side of the action. This shotgun features a solid steel raised rib with a single bead front sight, 3 inch chambers, with automatic ejectors, double triggers and a tang safety on a scalloped action. The barrels are choked, improved cylinder and cylinder bore and the underside of the barrels are marked 16.00 and 20/76, along with the Merkel factory proof marks. The top right side barrel is marked "147 EL, 20Ga" with the left barrel marked "GSI Inc. T'ville AL/ GEBR.MERKEL SUHL/ MADE IN GERMANY" . The sides of the receiver feature deep relief cut game and bird scene engraving with a geometric design border. The left side of the receiver has a pair of ducks flying or lifting off a marsh scene and the right side has a pair of quail in a field scene. The underside and top sections of the receiver, the attaching iron and forend release metal all feature a fine scroll and vine engraving, that extends to the blued break lever and trigger guard. The center section of the underside of the receiver features the factory Merkel Factory logo over "SUHL". These all feature a geometric designed border. The left side of the action is signed "BL" for master engraver Bernd Ludwig. The receiver has the high polished coin finish with the remaining metal surfaces blue. The shotgun is fitted with just a magnificent set of deluxe or presentation English walnut with 100% figure through out. The stock is in the straight grip English pattern with a thin forearm both of which exhibit just exceptional fine line checkering that is on both sides of the pistol grip and the forend. Length of pull is approximately 14 1/2 inches to the first trigger. Complete with a green felt covered hard carrying case.

Exceptional as new with 99% of the original factory blued finish overall with 99% of the original factory finish on the stock and forend. The checkering is crisp with no dents or dings anywhere. The carrying case is also like new with minimal edges wear. Just a fantastic example of a beautiful Merkel Master Factory engraved double barrel shotgun.
