Description:

Manufactured from 1874 to 1878. The top of the barrel rib is marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT" with the remainder ground off. The butt frame is marked with "SH" in a diamond over the serial number and there is a lanyard ring mounted on the butt. The rear face of the cylinder and top strap at the latch are marked "667". "39971" is stamped on the inside of the right grip panel. The front sight is integral to the barrel rib and the extraction housing is shorter which is characteristic of the 3rd Model Russian. Fitted with smooth two piece oiled walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 90% original nickel finish, mostly "frosted" with age. The majority of the finish loss is due to the grinding of the address on the top rib, otherwise there is some minor flaking on the muzzle and high edge wear. The grips show heavy wear with two crude "X"s carved into the right panel and scattered dings and handling marks. The action is fine.
