Description:

This revolver features a nickel plate finish, front rounded blade and rear notch sights with the barrel marked with the standard Smith & Wesson two line address and patent information on top with "SMITH & WESSON" on the left and "44 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG" on the right. The frame is marked with Smith & Wesson's trademark on the left while the right is marked with "R E Nice / Akron Police Dept." in script and "MADE IN U.S.A.". Grips have a hard rubber grip adapter and lanyard loop. As the engraving suggests this pistol was owned and carried by Akron, Ohio police officers and includes historical documentation of the two officers who carried it. Officers K.W. Moxley and Roy E. Nice served together in WWI before becoming patrolmen. The letter verifies the serial number, barrel length and nickel finish. The letter states that the revolver did not have any inscription on the side plate when it originally shipped. The revolver includes a factory letter stating that the gun was shipped March 17, 1926 to Patrolman K.W. Moxley. There are several photos included with Patrolman Nice wearing the revolver after it was given to him and several newspaper articles of his deeds. The large binder of documentation also includes four badges and two buttons from uniforms as well as military service information, numerous letters and records.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains approximately 70% of the original nickel finish with some fading and a few scattered areas of scratches and thinning. All markings are crisp and clear. The pearl grips are very good with the right grip showing a chip on the upper portion and a chip and hairline crack on the lower. Mechanically excellent. The badges and buttons are excellent.
