Description:

Brass bead front and notch rear sights, with a cannon style muzzle, four barrel bands, and a pair of decorative brass bands at the rear. Large action, with an integral storage compartment on the left side, bar trigger, and a flashpan arrangement with the pan cut into a brass cylinder, a powder storage chamber on the rear of the assembly, and a crank mounted on the opposite side. Turning the crank rotates the cylinder, bringing the flashpan back to the powder storage and priming it. (Also, it appears that the aforementioned apparatus might also feed the breech with powder, thus making it somewhat of a breechloader. Full length forearm, with carved decorations and a straight buttstock with ivory decorative inlays, "168" marked on each side (collection or museum inventory number), ivory buttplate and a ball storage compartment with a rotating disc for a door.

Rating Definition:

Good, with a mixed brown and gray patina on the metal, a few thin cracks on the action, and a small amount of material absent from the main body of the flashpan assembly. The forearm is cracked in the middle and the buttplate is loose, with some chipping and absent ivory inlaid sections. Mechanically good.
