This belt measures 39 3/4 inches in length, with steel buckle and 12 cartridge loops. The belt is marked "AM RY EX/40/MADE IN USA" over the maker's mark. These belts wear manufactured by Joseph Kantor in Chicago, Illinois and were issued, along with a holster and revolver, to guards for the American Railway Express. These guards were entrusted with the protection of packages, valuables, and other goods making their way to the Transcontinental Railroad.

Very good with wear from a hard life lived in service of the American Railway company, and an attractive patina on the metal buckle.
