Description:

1) Lightweight tropical-style field cap, green herringbone twill construction with machine embroidered green cloth eagle and cockade patches on the front, the latter enclosed by a triangular black waffenfarbe "soutache". The black waffenfarbe traditionally indicates a "pioniere", a combat engineer. The interior is lined in brown cloth, with a black ink "58" size marking. Fine overall, with minor wear and stains. 2) Field satchel, constructed from near-identical green herringbone twill cloth with alloy buttons, steel suspension rings, and leather hardware. Faint hand markings are present on one of the loops, otherwise the item is unmarked. Fair, with some holes, darned repairs, light stains, and wear consistent with use and sun exposure. Consignor statements attribute both items as a set of war trophies taken together in Italy during World War II.
