Description:

Inscription on underside of the hinged guard: "Presented to/Capt. Geo. Wm. Smith/H. Co. 7th Regt. N.G.S.N.Y." Etched blade with Ames marking. With scabbard and a New York National Guard veteran pin. Smith is listed among the captains of the 7th Regiment in the 1873 "Annual Report of the Adjutant-General of the State of New York." In the 1870s the regiment was deployed during the Orange Riots and Labor Riots.

Rating Definition:

Very good with the blade having an overall bright appearance, pitting and most of the etching remaining, handling wear, clear inscription.
