January 1945 production receiver likely from a left-over stockpile of approximately 19,000 M1C receivers (pre-drilled with five screw holes on the left side by Griffin and Howe) kept in storage at the end of World War II production and subsequently utilized by the U.S. Springfield Armory for standard M1 rifle production in the early 1950s, with the scope base screw holes on the left side of the receiver filled in. "SA-52" (U.S. Springfield Armory, 1952) rebuild mark on the receiver heel, "S-A-5-52" marked replacement barrel with bright chamber ring, post-war "-SA/US1" marked bolt, post-war "SA" operating rod, along with a "-5-SA" trigger housing with "-7 SA" hammer and "SA-11" safety. Fitted with a set of walnut handguards and a walnut stock with "N/P" marked under the grip. Includes a matching Civilian Marksmanship Program certificate of authenticity dated January 24, 2001, and a Dave McClain letter verifying the rifle by serial number as having an authentic M1C receiver.

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal refurbished and re-converted from M1C Sniper configuration with filled in scope base holes, retaining much of the finish with scattered mild edge wear, mild cycling wear, thinning on the bands, some minor visible patches of brown patina, and light handling marks. The stock is also fine as sanded and re-oiled with scattered light handling marks and attractive fiddle-back grain. Mechanically excellent.
