This is a fine pair of flintlock pistols made by the master Bresican gunmaker Lazarino Cominazzo. During the first half of the 17th Century the gunmakers of Bresica, Italy, produced the finest and most beautiful weapons in Europe. The Bresican gunsmiths were particularly noted for their skill in chiseled steel embellishments. The finest Bresican firearms were made by the Cominazzo family. Lazarino Cominazzo was the most famous of the Cominazzo gunmakers. These pistols are 22 1/2-inches in length and have 15-inch half-round/half-grooved and chevroned barrels. The maker's name "+LAZARINO+COMINAZZO+" is engraved on the center flute of each barrel. The lock plates are engraved "Cevme In Brescia" with highly stylized lettering. The pistols have highly figured, pin-fastened, relief carved, European walnut stocks decorated with pierced and engraved steel inlays. The inlays are located at the muzzles, the sides of the forearms, in front of the locks, on the side plates, tangs and on both sides of the grips. The pierced inlays feature grotesque dragons surrounded by floral sprays. The lock plates, cocks, pans, frizzens, trigger guards and buttcaps feature the chiseled steel embellishments for which Lazarino Cominazzo was famous. The chiseled decorations feature stylized dragons surrounded by delicate floral sprays. Exquisitely detailed, grotesque masks are chiseled on the bottoms of the buttcaps. The pistols have delicate pierced triggers and chiseled ramrod pipes. The convex lock plates have chiseled borders and are fitted with delicate swan's neck cocks with chiseled top jaw and cock screws. The locks have an iron fenced pans and frizzens with chiseled, pierced, toes. The tapered wooden ramrods have delicate, chiseled steel tips. The barrels, locks, trigger guards, buttcaps and pierced steel inlays are bright.
