Manufactured from 1836 to 1844 with a total production of about 41,000. Marked "eagle head / A. WATERS / MILBURY. MS. / 1837" on the lock plate in front of the hammer, "U.S. / JCS / P" on the barrel opposite the flash pan. There are two crisp cartouches on the left stock flat, and "L" by the upper left side plate screw. It has a brass blade front sight and dished oval shaped rear sight on the barrel tang. The ramrod is the steel swivel type with a button shaped head. The barrel band has a strap extension which joins the side plate and the backstrap is integral with the buttplate and extends up the back to the tang. The lock plate, hammer and frizzen were casehardened, blue trigger and frizzen spring and all other iron parts bright. This was the last U.S. martial pistol produced in flintlock. These pistols were standard issue during the Mexican War and continued to see extensive use during the Civil War.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The metal surfaces, except the lock, have a dark brown patina with some scattered minor oxidation. The lock shows strong original case colors, which are mostly dark blue, with a smooth dark patina on the balance. The stock is very fine with a small gouge above the left side plate, and a few minor dings and scratches. The cartouches are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
