Description:

Manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut, circa 1813 to 1815 with total quantity approximately 1,626 (around 626 delivered to the U.S. Army with the remainder delivered to the U.S. Navy). This pistol is correctly absent of the belt hook found on the Navy pistols and not on the Army pistols. The lock is marked "S. NORTH (in downward curve) over an American eagle motif with the letters "U" and "S" at either side over "MIDLn CON. (in upward curve) ahead of the hammer. The breech of the barrel is marked "H.H.P." above the touch hole and "P / US" on the left side flat. The stock is flush with the front barrel band and has an iron tang/buttcap and a lock plate that is beveled at the front and slightly rounded at the rear, with the brass flash pan without fence, tilted upward to the rear. There is an oval cartouche on the left stock flat. Complete with a wooden ramrod with swelled tip and a metal ferrule threaded for cleaning and ball removal. As a limited production type, the Model 1813 is in strong demand by collectors. The pistol has the historic importance as the first arms contract in which a gun maker agreed to provide a product with interchangeable parts.

Rating Definition:

Fine as professionally reconverted to flintlock. The metal surfaces have a crisp original smooth mottled gray patina with a small amount of minor pitting around the flash hole and a few minor dings on the barrel. The stock is fine with a crack extending forward from the upper left side plate and overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The cartouche is fine. The action is excellent.
