Description:

Model 1842 Navy Percussion Pistol from the lot of 200 pistols manufactured by Henry Deringer of Philadelphia with very deep seven groove rifling. The Model 1842 Navy percussion pistols were the first percussion pistols manufactured and delivered under government contract and the first U.S. government handgun with a rifled barrel. This is a "Standard Model" 1842 Deringer pistol with deeply rifled, seven-groove barrel and lock plate stamped "U.S. / DERINGER / PHILADELa" below the hammer. Experts believe that Deringer manufactured fewer than 200 of these Standard Model 1842 Navy pistols. The pistol has a brass post front sight on the barrel and an integral fixed rear sight on the tang, and integral brass trigger guard. The box lock pistol has a browned barrel, bright finished swivel ramrod, hammer and lock plate and brass barrel band, trigger guard and round buttcap.

Rating Definition:

Fine as refurbished. The barrel retains 50% of the aforementioned thin brown finish with areas of smooth gray patina. The lock and hammer have a smooth brownish patina. The brass has been cleaned and a protective coating applied. The percussion nipple appears original to the gun and has seen very little, if any use. The stock is excellent. With the exception of a small repaired chip on the right side lower edge, there are only a few scattered minor dings and handling marks. The lock markings are sharp. The action is excellent.
