Description:

One of approximately 2000 produced circa 1842 - 1847. No fixed sights, with the breech area of the barrel marked "USN/ 1845/ RC/ P". The lock plate is marked "USN/ 1845" vertically at the rear and "N.P. AMES/ SPRINGFIELD/ MASS." below the hammer. Smooth one piece walnut stock, with a pair of boxed cartouches on the left side and a brass buttcap.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 75% of the original brown finish on the barrel, with some spotting, handling marks and areas of faded color. 40% of bright original case color are visible on the hammer, with a smoothly faded patina on the lock plate. Stock is very fine, with pressure dents and a few light scratches. Cartouche is excellent. Mechanically excellent. One does not find these USN 1842 pistols in this exceptional condition very often!
