This is an example of one of the only 600 Type II Springfield Model 1817 martial pistol, which was later converted to percussion using the drum style bolster style of conversion. The pistol has characteristic evenly rounded rear of the lock. The lock is marked "SPRING / FIELD / 1818" behind the hammer and eagle (partially visible) over "US" ahead of the hammer. The barrel is dated "1818" date, recessed "P" and "eagle head / V" proofs are marked on the left side breech end and the trigger plate is marked "EA" directly ahead of the hammer. Brass blade front sight, iron mountings, wooden ramrod with swollen end and mounted with a full walnut stock with a faint oval cartouche on the left flat. The Model 1817 pistol is one of only three handguns manufactured by Springfield Armory and nearly all these were converted to percussion.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surface have a mottled gray patina with overall scattered minor pitting, heavier on the breech end of the barrel. The stock is good with a minor crack ahead of the upper left side plate screw, a couple gouges on the left side grip area and overall scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is good.
