Manufactured circa mid-1840s to 1849 with total quantity unknown. This pistol represents an enigma for today's collectors. This pistol was not officially adopted or issued as a government arm, and is thought to be a transitional piece between the last flintlock handgun (the Model 1836) and the first adopted percussion handgun (the Model 1842). The pistol is possibly the maker's attempt at obtaining a government contract. At first glance this pistol resembles a percussion converted Model 1836. However, this pistol was originally made as a percussion piece and has the distinguishing feature of a flat, flush fitted lock plate. It has the iron furniture of the Model 1836 style, brass blade front sight, and swivel iron ramrod. The casehardened lock plate is marked with an eagle head over "A.H. WATERS & Co. / MILBURY MASS." There are no date or stock markings, with the letter "G" in front of the trigger.

Very good. The barrel and barrel band show signs of being cleaned at one time and has aged to a mottled gray patina with even minor pitting. The remaining metal surfaces have a dark mottled patina with traces of silver out case colors retained on the lock plate. The stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
