Receiving a royal charter in 1600, the Governor and Company of Merchants of London trading with the East Indies, later shortened to the Honorable East India Company, would grow from a British spice trading monopoly to the dominant power in India, establishing a capitol and governorship in Calcutta in 1772. Bayonet lug front sight, with the top of the barrel marked "COLT 1779" ahead of the "4 over heart" marking of British East India Company weapons, along with "crown/V", "crown/ GP", "crown/ W" and */ DG" proofmarks. The lock plate is marked "NICHOLSON" under the flash pan and "1779" vertically behind the hammer along with the East India mark. Smooth straight wrist stock, with a button head ramrod, brass pipes and trigger guard, sling swivel and a brass buttplate marked "No 51" on the heel.

Rating Definition:

Very good as reconverted back to flintlock configuration, with a mixed gray patina on the barrel, scattered patches of brown and mild pitting. The lock is a mixed gray and brown. The stock is gooad as revarnished, with cracks, chips, dings, signs of sanding, and the front sling swivel absent. Mechanically very good.
