Description:

Marked "DREPPARD/ LANCASTER" on the barrel and lock plate. In addition there is floral engraving on the lock and hammer. John Dreppard worked in Lancaster, Pa. from 1834 to 1869, one of a long line of Dreppards to work in that area from before the Revolutionary War. This rifle features silver mountings with light engraving on the left side plate, trigger guard and toe extension. The decorative, four piece patch box (typical of Lancaster gun), has scroll engraving on the door, thumb oval and there is a running fox overlay on the stock cheekpiece. The stock is a full straight grip with three wedges and a silver plate on the underside extending from the trigger guard plate to the rear ramrod pipe. The wrist is checkered in the skipline pattern favored in Lancaster. German silver blade front and iron fixed rear sights, double set triggers and wooden tiger stripe ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fine. There are streaked traces of blue finish mixed with smooth brown patina on the barrel. The lock and hammer have a dark patina and the silver components have an aged patina. The lower wrist area of the stock has a pinned repair and an area on the forearm (left side), and in the area of the patch box where the finish has been removed, otherwise the stock shows scattered minor dents and dings. The marking is clear. The action is fine. This is an attractive American rifle!
