Description:

One of only around 500 of these revolvers produced circa 1840-1843. During this timeframe, Samuel Colt had declared bankruptcy and John Ehlers, a major shareholder in and treasurer of the Patent Arms Company, seized the firms assets, including a number of unfinished Number 2 Patersons, which he then had completed and then sold. They had a loading lever and "Mfg Co" was deleted from the barrel address. The top of the barrel is marked in script: "-Patent Arms Paterson N-J Colt's Pt-". The cylinder is decorated with the roll-engraved centaur scene and "COLT". The revolver serial number, "266", is marked on the inside of the barrel lug, on the right side of front and rear grip strap (under grip) on the top of interior frame under the cylinder, and on the interior bottom of grip. The loading lever is number "60" or "09". The back of the cylinder is number "8". Fitted with one piece walnut grips. Complete in a accurately made reproduction rosewood case with a German silver inset plaque on the lid, dark maroon velvet lining, reproduction accessories including a leather covered brass flask, lacquer finished capper, cleaning rod with a wooden handle and key.

Rating Definition:

Refinished with almost all of the dark blue finish remaining. The markings are faint and there are small areas of pin prick type pitting and imperfections in the metal that have been finished over. Grips are fine as refinished, with 98% varnish remaining and a couple minor dings on the right side. The case shows some signs of light sanding and has been varnished, remaining in near mint condition with a few minor scratches and dings. The lining is near mint showing little wear. The accessories are all fine. Mechanically fine. An extremely rare Ehlers Model Pocket Paterson.
