Description:

There were three standard variations of detachable shoulder stocks made for 1,200 to 1,500 Third Model Dragoon revolvers. This particular shoulder stock is a Third Pattern or type which was standard on all four of the Colt percussion revolvers adapted for a shoulder stock (the Dragoon, 1860 Army and Model 1851 and 1861 Navy revolvers). This stock falls in the correct 17000 range. These stocks were basically a military design and will bear U.S. military markings. Dragoon revolvers were meant to be issued to troops in consecutively serial numbered pairs and will bear two serial numbers. This stock is correctly marked on the buttplate tang and on the bottom of the yoke "17447 / 17448". A clear boxed "WAT" ordnance cartouche is marked on the right side of the wrist and a boxed "GC?" on the left side. The stock is walnut with iron mountings, crescent buttplate and sling swivel eye and ring mounted on the bottom tang.

Rating Definition:

The stock shows evidence of cold blue touch up, remains fine otherwise with a few scattered minor dings and dents. The iron parts have a mottled dark gray and brown patina with some minor pitting on the top of the yoke and on the buttplate. The cartouches are light, but visible, and for the most part readable. The serial numbers are crisp and clear. A highly desirable accessory for your U.S. 3rd Model Dragoon which seldom comes up for sale!
