Description:

Manufactured in 1860. Standard one line Hartford barrel address on the top barrel flat, "COLTS / PATENT" on left side of frame and "C.L. Dragoons" finely engraved, flanked by inward pointing arrows on the upper left barrel flat (writer has seen this inscription on Colt Dragoons, but can not recall ever offering a C.L. Dragoon marked Colt Model 1851 at our auction). The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas naval battle scene (faint). The complete matching serial number is marked on the frame, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap, and the partial serial number "4814" is marked on the loading lever and arbor pin, with the wedge un-numbered. Fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth dark brown patina with a few minor dings on the barrel. The backstrap retains 60% of the original silver plating which has darkened with age and the trigger guard retains strong original dark silver is protected areas. The balance of exposed brass has an aged "mustard yellow" patina. The grip is also very good with most of he original varnish, some wear on the lower edges and minor dings and dents. Unless noted above, the markings are clear. The action is fine.
