Description:

Manufactured in 1890 this very limited edition Third Model 1873 carbine features a commemorative engraving by Abercrombie & Fitch. There is a gold band around the barrel at the muzzle and another at the breech. The sides of the receiver feature a scroll and punch dot engraving with 6 medallions or vignettes carved into steel. The left side features a seated Liberty with the date 1873, a grizzly bear and an Indian head. The right side features a seated Liberty, an eagle with shield and a grizzly bear. The dust cover and cartridge elevator are scroll and punch dot engraved. Blade front sight and ladder rear sight marked with "1873". Border engraving on the tangs which are marked with the serial number on the lower and "MODEL 1873" on the upper. A saddle ring is mounted on the left side of the receiver. Blued barrel and magazine with the remaining surfaces silver. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate with trapdoor.

Rating Definition:

Fine as custom embellished. The barrel and magazine retain 80% of the thinned blue finish with minor spotting. The remaining surfaces retain a dark aged silver. The wood is ill-fitting at the frame, otherwise fine with some hairline cracks (more prevalent on the forearm) and a few minor dings. Mechanically needs work.
