This is an example of a Danzig GEW 98 rifle equipped with the extended 25 round magazine. The rifle is still equipped with the folding luminous front and rear night sights. The magazine greatly increased the cartridge capacity, however was extremely difficult to handle which made it unpopular with the German troops. The top of the receiver ring is marked "Crown / DANZIG / 1916", the right side is marked with crown over letter proofs over a "crown/RC". "e" and "r", and the left side is marked with the serial number and the Imperial eagle. Standard front and rear sights with the graduation markings on each side of the barrel below the rear sight. The blue magazine is equipped with the cut off attached by a chain. Mounted with a one piece full length pistol grip stock with crown proofs on the right rear behind the unit disk, on the bottom and in the wrist area, with the matching serial number on the bottom. All visible numbers match. Complete with slotted cleaning rod, original floor plate and spring, and a bayonet with serrated wooden handle and metal scabbard. The blade is marked with the letters "Z" and "F" on the bottom ahead of the guard, otherwise there are no makers marks.

Very fine. The barrel retains 50% thin original blue finish mixed with smooth brown patina. The trigger guard has a smooth brown patina. The receiver and bolt assembly remain bright. There is a small amount of moderate oxidation on the heel and toe of the buttplate. The stock is also very fine with a few minor dings and dents. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The bayonet is very good plus and the scabbard is good with several minor dents. Mechanically excellent.
