Description:

The 98K was the primary service rifle used by all German forces throughout the war. The top of the receiver ring is marked "Mod. 98. / bnz 45", the wartime code for Steyr-Daimler and the year of manufacture and the right side is marked with an "eagle / 623" proof, and the left rear of the barrel is marked with the serial number and eagle Waffenamt proof. The rifle is equipped with a hooded front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. All phosphate finish except for the rear barrel band which is blue. Stamped barrel bands (secured by screws), floor plate and trigger guard. The rifle is mounted with a walnut stock and handguard with cupped buttplate with firing pin hole and brown leather sling. The right side of the stock is marked with an "eagle/swastika" over "H" designating issue to the Army. The barrel and bolt serial numbers match. Appears unissued.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The rifle retains 80% of the original thin phosphate finish. The rear barrel band retains 75% of the original blue finish with areas of smooth gray patina. The forward band is refinished. The stock has been lightly sanded and reoiled, and remains excellent with a few minor dings and dents. The action is a little rough, but functions properly. The markings are clear.
