Description:

Only 5000 Model 1898 carbines were manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1898 and 1899. The serial number range for Model 1898 Carbines falls within the Model 1898 Rifle range. Observed carbine serial numbers range from 118,894 to 134,256. This carbine is in the middle of the known Model 1898 Carbine serial number range. Hooded blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards and marked with a "C" on the upper right hand corner of the leaf. The left side of the base has even numbered graduations from 2 to 6. Standard receiver markings and mounted with a smooth one piece straight grip stock with matching handguard, finger grooves in the forearm, saddle ring and bar on the left side of the stock, faint cartouche on the left wrist and steel buttplate with compartment containing an original three piece cleaning rod and nickel oiler. The circle behind the trigger guard is visible, but the "P" is not.

Rating Definition:

Partially refinished, the stock and trigger guard. The barrel retains 80% original blue finish with areas thinning to a smooth plum. The remaining parts have a smooth dark brown mottled patina. The stock remains very good with a few scattered minor dents and dings. The markings, unless noted above, are clear. The action is excellent.
