Description:

Pinned blade front sight and a military wind gauge rear sight graduated to 2000 yards, with "U.S. / MODEL 1896, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." next to the serial number on the receiver. The stock has a script "JSA / 1898" cartouche on the left side and the number "12" on the right side with a circled "P" in the grip area. Fitted with a trapdoor buttplate marked with the number "12" and a front barrel band with a bayonet lug.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains some traces of faded original blue finish in the protected areas with the balance a smooth dark patina with some minor pitting near the rear band. The receiver retains strong traces of silvered out original case colors with the balance a smooth dark gray patina. The wood is very fine with some minor handling marks, along with a large pressure dent on the underside of the forearm. The cartouche is clear.
