Introduced as a SA rank in 1925 and a SS rank in 1930, a Gruppenfuhrer was regarded as parallel in power and responsibility to a Lieutenant General. Black wool construction, with textured aluminum buttons and a small amount of silver blade trim around the collars. A single braided silver shoulder bar is present on the right shoulder, with a pair of silver bullion rank tabs on the collar. A "SS" pattern armband is secured to the left sleeve, and the left breast pocket is adorned with an iron cross, a Party Day badge from Nuremburg, 1929, and a "1925" dated Party District Commemorative Badge. With a pair of black wool trousers.
