Description:

Full octagon barrel with German silver blade front and buckhorn rear sight and marked "45 GOVT" at the breech. The left side of the casehardened frame is marked "J.M. MARLIN NEW-HAVEN CONN, U.S.A. / BALLARD'S. PATENT NOV. 5 1861.", with the serial number on the underside and the upper tang drilled and tapped for a sight mount. Double set triggers and small loop lever, with a wooden ramrod. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel has a smooth brown patina with some minor pitting which is mostly concentrated near the muzzle. The buttplate has a smooth dark patina with some minor spotting. The action has a dark mottled patina with some scattered minor pitting and traces of silvered out original case colors around the triggers and hammer. The loose buttstock is cracked with a few hairline cracks near the frame, otherwise the wood is good with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
