Manufactured by the Meriden Manufacturing Company from 1864 to 1865 in response to a contract with the state of Kentucky for 5,000 arms. Of those, around 3,000 were made with the 30 inch barrel. Fixed front and ladder rear sights, with the left side of the breech section marked "KENTUCKY", indicating the carbine as part of the state contract. The left side of the frame has the two line Meriden address with the serial number on the right side. The upper tang has the two line Triplett & Scott patent date marking. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a silver inlay on each side of the forearm and sling swivel on the underside as well as heel of butt.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel has a smooth brown patina with traces of faded original blue finish in the protected areas. The remaining surfaces have a mottled brown-gray patina with traces of slivered out original case colors remaining on the receiver. The buttstock has been repaired in the wrist area, otherwise the refinished wood is good with some minor handling marks and a long hairline crack on the buttstock (left side).
