Description:

The Hall rifle is a significant U.S. military firearm. The Model 1819 rifle was the first breech loading military arm produced in large quantities and adopted as a regulation weapon by the U.S. This Model 1819 rifle is a Second Production Type made from 1826 to 1838 and has a "1831" dated breechblock and pin-fastened barrel bands. The rifle barrel, receiver and furniture have a brown finish. The stock is oil-finished black walnut. The breechblock is marked: "J.H. HALL / H. FERRY / U S / 1831" perpendicular to the bore. It was converted to percussion by grinding the pan flush with the top of the breech, adding a musket nipple in the old flash hole and installing a new hammer with a percussion top. Complete with a later production (incorrect for this rifle) socket bayonet marked "I / 258" and a faint "US".

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal refurbished. The rifle has traces of arsenal blue/brown mixed with a balance between a brown and gray patina with some scattered minor spotting. The breechblock retains flashes of original case colors. The stock is fine with some minor handling marks with a couple small chips missing from around the ramrod channel. The bayonet is fine with some light oxidation.
