This is an attractive example of a cased, engraved Sharps Patent Four-Shot Pepperbox Pistol that was manufactured by the English gun maker Tipping & Lawden. The pistol has blue barrels, silver plated brass frame and casehardened hammer, trigger and barrel release. The pistol features floral scroll engraving on the frame and a geometric design around the barrel release. The top of the backstrap is marked "DEANE & SON 30 KING WILLIAM ST / LONDON BRIDGE" with floral scroll engraving at the bottom. The breech end of the barrels has a wedge of floral scroll engraving and the sides have a checkered oval panel surrounded by scroll engraving. The left side of the frame is marked "TIPPING & LAWDEN / SHARPS PATENT" in a circle and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, on the firing pin and butt. Fitted with a smooth ivory grips. Complete in a walnut case with Burl lid and blue velvet lining. The inside of the lid has a Deane, Adams & Deane label and comes with a cleaning rod and six original 32 caliber rimfire bullets with "U" head stamp.

Very fine. The barrels retain 20% original blue finish in the flutes and protected areas. The frame retains 95% of the aged original silver plating with some edge wear. The grip is excellent with a couple of minor age cracks on the bottom and a pleasant aged caramel patina. The markings and engraving are clear. The firing pin rotates properly and the action is fine. The case is very good with a few minor dings and scratches on the exterior and minimal wear to the lining with the lid label fully intact.
