This is an example of a 1st Contract Portuguese contract K 98 rifle. The top of the receiver is marked with the Portuguese Crest over "1937", the left side is marked with the Nazi firing proof ahead of the serial number and the right side is marked with three "eagle/63" proofmarks. The left side receiver wall is marked "MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF A.N.". The left rear of the barrel is marked with the Nazi firing proof followed by the matching serial number. The right side of the barrel below the rear sight is marked with two stick wing eagle over "WaA63" proofs. Shrouded front blade sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Mounted with a one piece pistol grip stock with matching handguard, with a flat buttplate and slotted cleaning rod. The stock has a sling swivel on the bottom behind the grip and on the left rear. The right rear is marked with three eagle proofs and the underside is marked with the faint matching serial number.

Very fine. The rifle retains 85% original finish with thinning on the forward portion of the barrel and bolt, and some wear on the front edge of the receiver and bolt extractor. The front barrel band, floor plate and trigger guard have a smooth brown patina. The stock has been freshened with a coat of varnish and remains good with overall scattered minor dings and dents. Unless mentioned above, the markings are clear (most on the metal highlighted in white). The action is excellent.
