Description:

This is a nice example of an English Pepperbox. The frame, hammer, trigger guard, backstrap and buttcap are engraved with floral scroll designs and a feather design on the hammer safety. The left side of the frame is marked "BURNETT / SOUTHAMPTON" and "IMPROVED / REVOLVING PISTOL" on the right. Each barrel flute is marked with a Birmingham proofmark. Silver frame, casehardened barrels and blue remaining parts, hammer safety and fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips with a cap compartment in the butt. Complete in a wooden case with brass initial shield on the lid, brown velvet lining, powder flask, bullet mold, screwdriver and nipple tool.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrels show 75% original case colors with the balance smooth brown patina. The hammer retains 50% of the original bright niter blue finish with a smooth dark patina on the balance. The frame retains 98% of the silver which is beginning to age and the remaining parts have a smooth mottled brown patina with some minor pitting on the trigger guard. The grips are excellent with 95% plus varnish and some scattered minor dings and handling marks. The engraving and markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent. The case is good, the lid is slightly warped, the lining is faded and shows some contact wear and staining. The accessories are good.
