A) U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle

Description:

Blade front and 1879 pattern rear sights, with "V/ P/ eagle head/ P" mark on the left rear of the barrel, "U.S./ MODEL/ 1873" on the low arch breechblock, 3-click tumbler, and a short wrist stock with "S.W.P./ 1883" cartouche, sling swivels and a "US" marked buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 50% of the original blue finish on the barrel, and 60% of the finish on the trigger guard, butt plate, and lock. Bright case colors are visible on the protected areas of the breechblock. Fine stock, with exception of a number of scratches and dents, including one on the left side in the shape of a screw head. Mechanically excellent.

Description:

Blade and "R" marked Buffington rear sights, with the "V/ P/ eagle head/ P" marks on the left rear of the barrel, "US / MODEL / 1884" on the low arch breechblock, and the American Eagle and "U. S. / SPRINGFIELD" on the lock. 3-click tumbler. Smooth straight grip stock, with sling swivels, "SWP / 1891" final inspection cartouche, one piece trigger guard and "US" marked buttplate. With a 35 1/2 inch spike bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 60% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, handling marks and mild spotting. Bright case colors are visible on the breechblock. Stock is also fine, with mild pressure dents and handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
