Description:

Manufactured from 1860 to 1868 with a total production of about 5,000 rifle variations and carbines, with the carbine the least produced making them very scarce. The top rear of the bolt is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION N.Y. / PAT. FEBY 24 MCH 17, 1874 JAN. 18 / SEPT. 26 1876 MCH 20 JULY 31 1877". The left rear of the receiver is marked ".433". Blade front sight mounted on the barrel band and short folding military leaf style rear sight. This was Remington's first production bolt action carbine with an external, manually cocked hammer that functions only when the bolt is closed. Mounted with a half, straight grip stock stamped "157" on the left side at the rear of the receiver, with a iron forend cap with sling swivel, carbine buttplate and sling swivel on the bottom of the stock.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The metal surfaces have a dark patina with overall minor pitting. The stock is fine with some minor scattered dings, dents and scratches associated with a gun of this age. The marking is clear. The mechanics are excellent. Solid example of a scarce Remington-Keene carbine. Appears as if it just came out of an attic!
