Description:

Manufactured circa 1872 to 1888 with a total production of about 6,000, of which approximately 5,000 were sold to the U.S. government. The left side of the frame is marked "REMINGTON'S ILION, N.Y. U.S.A. / PAT MAY 3D, NOV. 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866" and "PS". Pinched blade front sight and a "V" notch on top of the breechblock serves as the rear sight. Blue barrel, niter blue trigger, bright hammer and breechblock, and casehardened frame. Fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip and matching forearm with a clear boxed "C.R.S." cartouche on the lower left side.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 90% of the thinning original blue finish with areas of smooth gray and brown patina. The frame retains 75% of the original case colors with the lower backstrap, trigger guard and front strap faded to a smooth mottled gray patina. The hammer and breechblock remain bright with a small amount of discoloration on the hammer. The wood is very good. With the exception of three small holes on the right side of the grip and a few moderate chips on the lower edge, there are only a few minor dents and handling marks, with a clear cartouche. The first line of the frame marking is beginning to fade, otherwise the markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
