This is an excellent example of a retailer marked pre-war commercial Broomhandle Model 1896 Mauser pistol with flat frame sides and large ring hammer. The top of the chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/ MAUSER/ OBERNDORF a/N" with "VON LENGERKE/ & DETMOLD/ NEW-YORK" marked in the center area on the left side. The left side of the barrel extension is marked with a "crown / U" proof and the underside of the barrel is marked with gothic letters. Matching serial number on major components including stamped on the inside of each 23 groove grip panel. The pistol has the standard inverted "v" front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. With a wooden shoulder stock which is missing the attaching iron.

Excellent, 95% original blue, with a bright gray area around the stock cut, patches of brown and gray patina, scattered handling marks and some mild spotting. Grips are very fine, with mild pressure dents. Stock is fine, with the mounting iron detached (and now gone), dings and cracks. Mechanically excellent.
