Description:

This is an excellent example of a rare standard WWII training rifle as manufactured by the Berlin-Suhler Waffen (BSW) Werkes factory with the large "SA" property mark on the right side of the stock and actual WWII capture papers. This rifle is one of the various models of single shot, bolt rifles chambered in 22LR that was produced before and during WWII, that were used as standard marksmanship training rifles. The top of the receiver is marked "MOD W, 625B/BSW/Suhl". The top rear section of the barrel is marked "FLUSS-STAHL-KRUPP-ESSEN" with the left side marked "Kal 22 Long Rifle". The right side of the receiver and barrel have the standard Crown over B and U proof marks, with a standard tangent rear sight and the inverted "V" front sight. It has a one piece walnut stock and handguard, with finger grooves on the sides. The machined barrel bands are held on by a single cross-pin and one spring band. The right side of the walnut stock has a small "SA" Sturm Abteilung property mark that that the script "SA" symbol in the center with the outer ring marked "GRUPPEN/KURPFALZ". It is complete with an original leather sling and a non-original cleaning rod. The capture documents that accompany this lot lists both this 22LR and the associated Walther PP pistol by serial number.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 97% of the original blue finish with edge and high spot wear, with wear and browning on the exposed barrel, the barrel bands, and areas of the action. The stock and handguard both show numerous handling marks and light pressure dents overall from handling and field use. The stock has a duffle bag cut directly in front of the rear barrel band. The markings are clear and sharp and the sling is in excellent condition overall. A very nice example of two actual WWII German "SA" capture pieces with actual capture papers.
