Description:

Manufactured circa 1860-'61 with a total production of only about 100, this extremely rare revolver has a brass frame, spur trigger and unique cylinder pin lock, which is unlike any of the later revolvers made by Edwin A. Prescott. The upper left barrel flat is marked "E.A. PRESCOTT WORCESTER, MASS / PAT'D OCT. 2, 1860" and the matching serial number is marked on the front face of the cylinder, loading lever, on the left side of the butt under the grip, on the inside of each grip panel and on the cylinder pin. The unique cylinder pin has a knurled ring on its flattened top surface in front of the frame. This ring has a partial rim which can be turned in a groove cut in the bottom of the barrel to lock it in place. The loading lever is also attached to the cylinder pin. Blade front "v" notch rear sights, six round un-fluted cylinder, blue barrel, cylinder, hammer and trigger with correct unfinished brass frame and fitted with smooth walnut grips. Prescott worked for Allen & Thurber in Norwich, Conn. and moved to Worcester, Mass. when the company did. Only a handful of these revolvers are known to exist making these extremely rare and very seldom seen.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel, hammer and cylinder have a dark mottled patina with some scattered minor pitting. The frame has an untouched aged patina. The grips are good with three minor gouges on the bottom, right panel, some lower edge wear and overall minor dings and dents. The barrel marking is readable. The action needs work, the cylinder doesn't always rotate when the hammer is cocked. A solid example of an extremely rare E.A. Prescott Pocket Revolver, seldom offered for auction. This piece comes with a small plaque.
